Logline

Inspired by their dedicated teacher, and with support from the local community, seven girls from a rural South African village make it to the big city to participate in an international ballet competition.

OMDRAAI tells of two interweaving journeys: a physical and mental journey followed by seven young ballet dancers in order go to a big city and experience international competition: and a journey of transformation and upliftment, where their socio-economic circumstances and burdens, and those of their parents, are revealed. The difficulties intrinsic to movement out of poverty are laid bare. This film will showcase, in a meaningful and nuanced way, the determination needed to rise out of apathy and nihilism, and how both individual determination and the rallying of a community are necessary to succeed.
